Commission members heard testimony from five different panels composed of state and local government officials, and representatives of veterans, military and civil service retirees, and the disabled. The 32 member commission, appointed by congressional leaders and the president, is seeking bipartisan agreement on longterm entitlement reform and structural changes to the tax system. In August 1994, the commission voted to adopt an interim report to the president depicting the need for the president and Congress to enact entitlement reforms. close
