In a contentious hearing on the use of performance-enhancing drugs by Major League baseball players, Brian McNamee testified that he had injected Roger Clemens and others with human growth hormones and anabolic steroids. Mr. Clemens flatly denied Mr. McNamee’s statements under aggressive questioning by some committee members. Mr. Scheeler testified that he still stood by the results of his investigations for the Mitchell Report and believed that Brian McNamee was truthful about administering the drugs. 

Mr. Clemens' lawyers Rusty Hardin and Lanny Breuer tried to intervene on behalf of their client during questioning but the committee chairman eventually told them this was not allowed in hearings.
