Energy Secretary Steven Chu testified on his department’s budget request for 2012 and the president’s plan to increase the Energy Department’s budget to $29.5 billion, up 12 percent from the 2010 budget. Among the issues he addressed were efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve energy efficiency and reduce the nation’s dependency on fossil fuels. The budget also called for increased funding for communities that invested in electric vehicle infrastructure, promoting renewable power projects and solar energy. close
