In the inaugural lecture of the University Distinguished Lecture Series Professor Edwards talked about abolishing the Electoral College. He is the author of Why the Electoral College Is Bad for America, published by Yale University Press. He argued that the Electoral College is inherently undemocratic and unfair. He further noted that the arguments for maintaining the Electoral College are misguided. He claimed that the current incarnation of the Electoral College does not perform the function envisioned for it by the Founding Fathers and that it does not benefit small states. close
