The panelists discussed the relationship between Eisenhower’s administration and the Congress. The legislative branch was different in that era in that it was more oriented towards political parties, it had less special interest group lobbying pressure and there was greater consensus on foreign policy issues. Eisenhower was the first president to establish a congressional liaison office to help him achieve his political priorities. The panelists assessed the success of his business, anti-trust, and foreign policy legislative initiatives. close
