President Obama spoke about the future of Egypt, calling on the people of Egypt to move forward with reform, negotiations with the government, and continued vigilance in their efforts to enact a governmental transition. He expressed sympathy toward the Egyptian people’s struggle, but called for reflection on the political upheaval and asked officials and citizens to reach an amicable solution to the unrest.

President Obama’s remarks were made soon after a second address by President Mubarak on state television in which he revealed that he would not stand for another term as president. Previously he had made an address dismissing his cabinet. close
