Former Senator John Edwards announced his candidacy for the 2008 Democratic presidential nomination outside a private home in 9th Ward of New Orleans that had been damaged in Hurricane Katrina. He said the location was chosen to show how citizens could work together to build a better future. In his remarks talked about the value of public service and grassroots movements and the role government could play in assisting such endeavors. He also responded to questions from reporters on a number of issues, including Iraq policy. close
