Republican and Democratic congressional leaders and Secretary Paulson announced the final passage of the bipartisan compromise economic plan. They talked about the purpose of the plan to stimulate the economy by sending tax rebate and child credit checks to approximately 40 million taxpayers. Speaker Pelosi signed the legislation which will then go to President Bush. One question from a reporter was answered.
Before the final vote the Senate added rebates to the legislation for low-income seniors and disabled veterans and eliminated extended unemployment benefits.
