David Jaffee talked about the new culture of domestic consumption embraced by nineteenth century, middle-class Americans as they began displaying locally-produced decorative objects such as clocks, books, portraits, and furniture in their homes. Topics included the role of provincial artisans during this shift from a pre-industrial society to a more material culture. After his illustrated presentation, Mr. Jaffee responded to questions from members of the audience.
