From the Arthur Ashe Foreign Policy Library, activist and author Mr. Robinson talked about his book The Reckoning: What Blacks Owe to Each Other, published by Dutton. He said that public funds are being used to subsidize a national private prison industry whose growth depends on higher incarceration rates. He calls for black Americans to support the forgotten underclass and to better the social conditions of deteriorating inner city communities. The book grew out of Mr. Robinson’s work with gang members, ex-convicts, and others marginalized by poverty and crime. After his presentation he answered questions from members of the audience. close
