Members of the Food and Drug Administration’s Science Board testified about the report, “The FDA Commission at Risk,” that they helped write. Topics included the FDA’s inability to fulfill its mission because of its eroding scientific base, its negative approach to oversight, and significant budget cuts over the last 35 years. It was recommended that the FDA budget be doubled over the next two years and that the number of personnel be increased by at least 50 percent.

Commissioner Andrew Von Eschenbach testified about the FDA’s response to the report.

Gail Cassell was chair of the FDA Science Board subcommittee that wrote the report. close
