Mr. Pavitt talked about the CIA and its role in efforts to combat terrorism. Among the topics he addressed were intelligence gathering, agent recruitment, and analytical methods. He also talked about the heightened need for good intelligence in the post-Cold War world. During his remarks he acknowledged that officials knew of threats by foreign terrorist networks to hijack airplanes prior to the September 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon. Following his remarks he answered questions from the audience. close
