At this meeting of the AMERICAN COUNCIL ON EDUCATION discussed the subject of Diversity in Higher Education.

Derek Bok,Professor & President Emeritus,HARVARD UNIV.,

JFK School of Government

William Bowen, President, THE ANDREW MELLON FOUNDATION

talked about their study which looked at how diversity affected students both while in college and in their subsequent careers. The study found that race-sensitive admissions policies had generally achieved their goals. Among college students they found significant racial interaction and good graduation rates. Among graduates they found that minorities tended to participate in community service and get advanced degrees. After their remarks they answered questions from the audience.
