Subcommittee members heard testimony on the president’s 1999 budget request for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Director Broom stressed that while there is much information on disease prevention, it is not being communicated effectively to the public. Thus the CDC must have increased funding in order to educate the public further on various health topics. The request totals$ 2.45 billion, which is a three percent increase over his 1998 request. close
