The American Bar Association’s Commission on Evaluation of Disciplinary Enforcement announced the release of its report on the American Bar Association’s system of attorney discipline. The report, two years in the making, calls for giving state courts the authority to conduct attorney discipline proceedings rather than state bar associations, making all attorney discipline proceedings public, and creating a system to regulate attorneys practicing in more than one state. The American Bar Association’s code of attorney conduct is considered and adopted separately by the bar association in each state; if the changes called for in the report are accepted by the American Bar Association, it will be up to each state bar association to adopt the changes in their state. close
