Religious leaders began an Interfaith Dialogue on Conflict Diamonds to advocate the end to the growing trade of “conflict diamonds.” These diamonds, smuggled from several African war zones, fund and fuel conflicts in Sierra Leone, Angola and other countries. They also talked about pressure which could be brought to bear on governments and businesses, and the responsibility of diamond markets for checking the origins of gems they sell.
