The members of the panel discussed the National Education Goals set by President George Bush and the National Governors' Association, the administration’s education policy, and local initiatives for school improvement. This program explored how inner-city schools fit into the national education strategy. The panel also looked at some of the issues in the Detroit public school system, including minority issues, and business involvement in education. The Detroit public schools face challenges such as educating students to be competitive in the workplace and working to meet minority concerns such as creating schools strictly for black males. close
