Former British Home Secretaries testified before a Joint Parliamentary Committee examining the length of time terror suspects can be detained without charge. The committee was reviewing draft legislation that in certain circumstances would allow officials to increase the detention time of terror suspects before they are officially charged or released. At the time of the hearing, terror suspects had to be charged or released after 14 days. close
