Interior Secretary Babbitt and members of Congress discussed the signing of the California Desert Protections Act. This act expands Death Valley and Joshua Tree National Monuments and creates Mojave National Preserve. The legislation sets aside nearly 7 million acres of California desert wilderness as national parks, preserves and monuments.
