Governors and panelists discussed clean energy and maintaining reliability and affordability in energy production while achieving environmental goals. Tom Friedman talked about the themes of his upcoming book, Green Is the New Red, White, and Blue, or what he calls “hot, flat, and crowded.” He said there are five “tipping points,” including population growth, energy demand and oil prices, global climate change, and slow policy change in government. Jeffrey Immelt talked about the four pillars of competitive society, which he said are education, health care, energy, and financial institutions that promote growth. Both men responded to questions from the governors.
