Military Base Closings Final Deliberations, Day 3

The 2005 Defense Base Closure and Realignment Commission began final deliberations before submitting its report to the president on September 8, 2005. Commissioners heard reports for staff members and considered several motions and amendments to Defense Department recommendations.

In the afternoon of the third day of the final hearings, motions focused on recommendations for Air Force base realignments and closures. Mr. Small presented a review and analysis of the Air Force’s recommendations for closure and realignment.

Installations considered for realignment included Fairchild Air Force Base (WA), Birmingham International Air Guard Station (AL), Key Field Air Guard Station (MS), Robins Air Force Base (GA), Bradley International Airport Air Guard Station (CT), Fort Smith Air Guard Station (AR), Boise Air Terminal Air Guard Station (ID), Mountain Home Air Force Base (ID), and Nellis Air Force Base (NV).
