A U.S. Congressional delegation visited the Middle East on an information-gathering trip. Led by Florida Republican Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, the group also included Massachusetts Democrat Steve Lynch, and Pennsylvania Republicans Todd Platts and Jim Gerlach. A C-SPAN video journalist accompanied them during their 5-day visit to the region, as they traveled first to Kuwait for a day, then into Iraq for the next two days, and spent the final two days in Afghanistan.

On January 23 and 24, 2006, they met with the Afghan Parliament speaker, the head of the Afghan Women’s Ministry and U.S. troops in Kabul. Then the delegation traveled to Jalalabad for site visits to provincial reconstruction work going on there and meetings with USAID, U.S. military, and local Afghan provincial leaders. close
