U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services Director Alejandro Mayorkas discussed the application process and policies that the agency has announced to implement the administration’s deferred action program. The program that defers deportation of qualified illegal immigrants that were brought to the country as children would take effect August 15, 2012. His presentation was followed by a panel discussion on additional questions and challenges of implementing the new program moderated by former Commissioner of the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service Doris Meissner.
