This section featured a floor debate on an amendment offered by Rep. Lofgren, entitled H.AMDT.24, for HR 1106, the Helping Families Save Their Homes Act. The House passed both HR 1106 by a vote of 234-191 and H. AMDT.24 by a vote of 263-164 on March 5th, 2009.

The Amendment required homeowners to spend at least 30 days trying to modify a mortgage using the mechanisms provided by HR 1106 before filing for bankruptcy.
