Mr. Mears, a former reporter Associated Press correspondent, discussed his latest book, Deadlines Past: Forty Years of Presidential Campaigning: A Reporter’s Story, published by Andrews McMeel Publishing. He related accounts of the characters, candidates and changes he encountered while on the presidential campaign trail from 1960 through 2000.
