Robert McFarlane testified about a Reagan administration plan involving Drug Enforcement Administration agents using 2 million dollars to pay bribes and ransom for the release of U.S. hostages held in Lebanon. McFarlane answered questions about President Reagan’s knowledge of efforts to solicit other countries for contra funds. Robert McFarlane also related being told by Oliver North that he planned a “shredding party” after the Justice Department investigation was initiated.
