In the first evening session themed “opportunity with a purpose,” the states of Alabama through Iowa were asked to cast their nominating vote for a presidential candidate. Following the votes participants spoke about various plans and programs designed to strengthen families, empower children and provide quality education. Mrs. Bush described Governor Bush’s approach to improving education and urged the American people to support his campaign. General Powell then talked about providing children better opportunities through public service programs and urged the party to be more inclusive of minorities.
