Author Suzanne Smith talked about her book Dancing in the Street: Motown and the Cultural Politics of Detroit, published by Harvard University Press. The book tells the story of Motown as both musical style and entrepreneurial phenomenon, and its intrinsic relationship to the politics and culture of Detroit in the 1950s and 1960s. She showed many pictures of musical groups, and political and civil rights leaders from the book. She also responded to questions from the audience. close
