Participants spoke about lessons learned from the Fukushima Dai-ichi nuclear power plant accident in Japan. Critics of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) spoke directly to commissioners, saying the agency was too cozy with the industry, and had not done nearly enough to implement new safety recommendations in the wake of the 2011 Japanese earthquake, tsunami, and subsequent power plant accident. The NRC meeting also included speakers from the nuclear power industry, who said the industry would meet its deadlines for the highest priority recommendations. close
