James Gustave Speth, United Nations, Development Programs Administrator, spoke about the problems of global poverty and the global economy. He said the U.S. ranked last in development assistance noting that less than one percent of the budget went to foreign affairs. He encouraged the U.S to invest more in developing countries in order to stimulate economic growth both abroad and at home. He stated that global inequity only hampered efforts to create a civil society. After his remarks he answered questions submitted from the audience. close
