The prosecution’s case was presented in portions excerpted from the three days of opening statements. Former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic went on trial before the United Nations' International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague, Netherlands. Milosevic faced 66 counts of war crimes during the 1991-99 Balkan wars, including genocide (in Bosnia) and crimes against humanity, in three indictments covering Kosovo, Bosnia, and Croatia. His trial was expected to take two years. close
