Witnesses testified on appropriations for the federal judiciary and the Supreme Court. Senators on the committee remarked that monetary demands by the Supreme Court were “frugal” and "reasonable". In their testimony, Supreme Court justices explained the origin of the cost increases. The justices and the senators discussed the changes that proposed crime bills might have on the court system. In a separate panel, representatives of the federal judiciary discussed their upcoming budget requests as well as questions of judicial jurisdiction with the states.
