Former U.S. Solicitor General Theodore Olson delivered his annual address and commentary on the 2004-2005 Supreme Court term to the Federalist Society. He focused on the make-up of the court throughout history and the pivotal role that Justice Sandra Day O’Connor has played as a swing vote, the history of dissenting and concurrent opinions, and the influence of foreign nations on the law. He talked about some of the most significant cases of the term including: securities fraud, sentencing guidelines, medical marijuana, eminent domain, and religious displays. He also commented on memorable moments in the term and on the nomination process for a replacement for Justice O’Connor. He responded to a few questions from members of the audience. close
