The Soviet Union Ambassador to the United States, Viktor Komplektov, read a brief statement in the Soviet Embassy before responding to reporters' questions on the failed coup in the Soviet Union. In his statement, the ambassador showed his appreciation for the support of the American people for people of the Soviet Union against the coup. He indicated the need for further reforms to ensure the movement toward democracy by the Soviet government.
