House Leadership and County Government Need

Rep. Foley talked about the interaction between county and federal government. He spoke on the future direction of the country now that the Persian Gulf war is over. The war has given the citizens confidence in the ability of the government to deal with large problems such as domestic issues on the home front. Like soldiers, county administrators are also government employees who have great skill and determination. Rep. Conyers said that he was there to “supply the batteries for President Bush’s 1,000 points of light.” He said that the “new world order” needs to be one of peace and equality. Rep. Conyers talked about civil rights, employment, police brutality, and lack of funding for local governments. close
