The Sierra Club, OMB Watch, Public Citizen, and AFL-CIO announced its call for Congress to cut funding to the Council on Competitiveness. The environmental organization criticized the council, headed by Vice President Dan Quayle, for its recommendations regarding interpretation and enforcement of federal environmental regulations. Since January 1992, the Bush administration had placed a freeze on federal regulations which it said hurt American business and industry. The event was held at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. and the speakers answered questions from reporters. close
