The Government Reform Subcommittee on National Security, Emerging Threats, and International Relations held an oversight hearing to examine the accuracy and reliability of cost projections for the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT). Witnesses testified under oath about the appropriations process, the use of supplemental appropriation acts since September 2001, as well as funding authority for operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, homeland security, and other global counterterrorism military and intelligence operations. They also testified about differences in processes by authorities within the Departments of Defense and State charged with producing reliable, accurate, and timely cost estimates for the Global War on Terrorism. close
