The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Subcommittee held a hearing on the effectiveness of the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction at detecting and preventing waste, fraud, and abuse. Special Inspector General Arnold Fields testified about the operations of his office and challenges in Afghanistan. Question focused on his leadership and ability as inspector general, poor auditing practices revealed in oversight inspections, and recovery of funds through audits made by his office. Near the end of the hearing Senator McCaskill (D-MO) suggested that General Fields was not the right person for the job and should be fired. close
