The Consumer Federation of America assembled a panel at their annual conference to address the automobile insurance industry. Panelists talked about the effects laws requiring insurance have had on consumers. Walter Dartland, executive director of Consumer Fraud Watch of Tallahassee, FL, described the history of the changes in legislation of automobile insurance in the government’s attempt to make auto insurance affordable. Peter Kinzler, president of the Coalition for Auto Insurance Reform, talked about liability coverage and uninsured drivers. He commented on the various auto insurance laws in different states and the advantages and disadvantages of those laws. J. Robert Hunter, director at the Consumer Federation of America, explained the various aspects of different types of auto insurance coverage. close
