Panelists discussed the effects of consolidation on competition within the telecommunications industry. Of specific concern was a proposed merger between Bell Atlantic and GTE. Among the issues discussed were anti-trust laws, the use of fiber optic delivery systems, consumers' rights, and the slow pace for implementation of the Telecommunications Act.
