Nevada Mining and the Comstock Lode
C-SPAN’s Local Content Vehicles (LCVs) made a stop in their “2013 LCV Cities Tour” in Carson City, Nevada, from July 8-12 to feature the history and literary life of the community. Ron James, Chair of the Historic Landmarks Committee, talked about the discovery of the Comstock Lode, the site that sparked Nevada’s gold and silver rush. He toured the area around Virginia City and Gold Hill, where mining boomed after 1859, including the site where prospectors first found gold in an area and later mined for silver.
