Democratic presidential candidate Gov. Bill Clinton announced his selection of Sen. Albert Gore, Jr. to be his running mate in the 1992 presidential election on the lawn of the governor’s mansion in Little Rock, Arkansas. Gov. Clinton and Sen. Gore, accompanied by their spouses and families, addressed a large crowd of supporters and media personnel on their objectives for the fall campaign. Gov. Clinton recited a list of reasons why he selected Sen. Gore to be his running mate, including Sen. Gore’s record as senator on the environment and other issues. Sen. Gore called for Americans to “get off the sidelines,” and criticized the record of the Bush administration on family issues. close
