Democratic presidential nominee Gov. Bill Clinton talked about foreign policy issues in a speech before the Los Angeles World Affairs Council. In his remarks, Gov. Clinton maintained that a strong domestic economy would be his main foreign policy priority since they are “two sides of the same coin,” and vowed to join other countries to support emerging democracies around the world. He also criticized the George H. W. Bush administration for acting on inertia rather than initiative, and for failing to act on human rights violations in China and being slow to react to changes in the Soviet Union. Gov. Clinton’s speech came after recent criticism by the Bush administration alleging his inexperience in foreign policy issues. Gov. Clinton responded to questions from the audience following his prepared remarks. close
