The House Armed Services Subcommittee on Military Personnel held a hearing on the religious climate at the U.S. Air Force Academy following the release of two reports addressing the issue on Wednesday, June 22, 2005. Witnesses testified about the Academy not addressing the religious needs of certain groups, ensuring cadets understand the values of the Air Force by respecting the rights of others to have different beliefs than their own, and discrimination.

The hearing was in response to allegations of religious intolerance and excessive religious influence by faculty and staff during the spring of 2004. Representative John McHugh (R-NY), Chairman of the Military Personnel Subcommittee, was unable to attend the hearing due to a prior commitment. close
