Participants talked about the impact of public discourse on politics, the lack of civil dialogue in various forums, and leadership challenges of bringing civil problem solving to tackle the problems of 21st century life. They also spoke about the history of partisan political discourse, the variety of forums available for political speech, and shifting cultural attitudes toward acceptable language. They responded to questions from members of the audience. Professor Kettle made introductory remarks.
