Stephen Janger talked to students about civic involvement. An active member of the Washington D.C. community for most of his life, Mr. Janger discussed the history of the foundation and his reasons for starting a high school civics program 35 years ago that continues to bring students and teachers to the nation’s capital each year. He also discussed approaches to civic involvement and future plans for the Close Up Foundation. He responded to questions and comments from the students in the audience.

Brief video clips of past Close Up Foundation programs and events were shown intermittently.

Stephen A. Janger founded the Close Up Foundation nearly 35 years ago and retired the week following this speech. He had informed the Close Up Foundation Board of Directors that he would retire at the end of the Foundation’s current fiscal year, June 30, 2005. Timothy S. Davis replaced Mr. Janger as president and chief executive officer. close
