The committee heard testimony on the Constitutional and legal issues involved in S. 25, the Freedom of Choice Act of 1991, legislation that seeks to put into law the 1973 Supreme Court decision in Roe v. Wade that prohibited states from restricting a woman’s right to abortion prior to fetal viability or when the woman’s health is at stake. The Freedom of Choice Act would prevent several states from implementing proposals to limit the practice of abortion in their states. close
