Ms. McGill talked about her book In the Hollow of Your Hand: Slave Lullabies, published by Houghton Mifflin accompanied by a CD of Ms. McGill singing songs she has collected. Illustrations were shown as Ms. McGill read from the book and played from the CD.

Mr. and Mrs. McKissack talked about their books and read from Black Hands, White Sails: The Story of African-American Whalers; Nzingha, Warrior Queen of Matabma: Angola, Africa, 1595; and Christmas in the Big House, Christmas in the Quarters, published by Scholastic Trade. They also answered questions from the audience.

Ms. Parker was interviewed about the festival and several other authors were visited in the autograph area. close
