The Campaign for a Commercial-Free Childhood held a forum titled, “Consuming Kids: How Marketing Undermines Children’s Health, Values and Behavior.” The panelists talked about solutions to this commercialization of children’s lives. Topics included the significant size of the problem, First Amendment rights of companies to market their products, interactive ads on the Internet, the effect of food advertising on obesity, and the need for legislation promoting nutrition and exercise education. By remote connection, Dr. Leland Lee talked about legislation he is introducing in the California legislature to prevent selling M-rated video games to children. After their presentations the panelists answered audience members' questions. close
