Representatives of the National Consumers League and American Federation of Labor and Congress of Industrial Organizations briefed reporters on its opposition to the North American Free Trade Agreement. The league cited a lack of protection for children from exploitive child labor. The National Consumers League, founded in 1899, worked to bring consumer influence to marketplace and work place issues.
